Shobhaa De has a blunt take on ‘Cocktail 2’, but Saba’s comment grabs attention

'Hindi films are not for you': Shobhaa De reviews 'Cocktail 2', has a blunt take on Rashmika Mandanna but Saba Pataudi's reaction grabs attention: 'Shahid Kapoor, best part' - WATCH

Nearly a week after its release, ‘Cocktail 2’ continues to perform well at the box office, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide within six days. However, despite its commercial success, the film has received a mixed response from audiences and critics alike. The latest to voice her opinion is author and columnist Shobhaa De, who did not hold back while sharing her review of the film which stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. Shobhaa posted a video after watching the film and compared it unfavourably to its predecessor. “Just walked out of watching Cocktail 2. Well, Cocktail 1 it isn’t. Woh Cocktail kya tha, yeh kya hai. I feel like I need five negronis to get over this one,” she said. The author went on to criticise the storyline, though she had praise for certain aspects of the film. She added, “Iska na head na tail, kuch bhi nahi hai. The story is absurd. Shahid, you need a new haircut, though you are the best part of the film. But the star by far is Sicily — I wish there was more of Sicily. Rashmika, I am so sorry but Hindi films are just not for you. Kriti, you look great, you have a fabulous bod; actually you did very well.”Shobhaa further questioned the film’s writing and themes, expressing disappointment with the narrative and character dynamics. “But the story, can it be a little more nuanced and meaningful? Two women fighting over Shahid, who then gives a lecture. And then the best line comes from Shahid, who says, ‘Love is something you can enjoy for a few days, there’s no such thing as love.’ It’s full of fake gyaan. Clichés of the worst kind. Nice jokes from time to time. But don’t even try to compare it to Cocktail, and five negronis are waiting, this is my capsule review.” However, it is Saif Ali Khan’s sister Saba Ali Pataudi’s comment which also grabbed attention. Saif was a part of the first ‘Cocktail’ along with Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. Saba wrote, “I needed my own kinda binge 😉 but IGET u! U missed the part .. forget fighting over him.. how can his feelings be taken so lightly or disregarded?;) 1 loved K. She’s nailed her part! R was good but the south cinema is much better….Shahid did his part. I liked the performances locations n music but not the story! Loved 1!” Directed by Homi Adajania, ‘Cocktail 2’, the romantic drama has managed to attract audiences to theatres and has emerged as a strong performer at the box office, despite the mixed reviews. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film’s worldwide gross collection has reached Rs 102.76 crore within six days of its release, helping it surpass the coveted Rs 100 crore milestone in less than a week.
