Visakhapatnam, affectionately known as Vizag is all set to unveil a new landmark that blends adventure with breathtaking views: India’s longest glass skywalk bridge. Suspended high on the scenic Kailasagiri Hills, the skywalk will soon open to visitors, treating them to sweeping vistas of the Bay of Bengal, the lush Eastern Ghats, and the city’s glittering skyline.

Even before the grand launch, the bridge has already captured the nation’s attention. Business leader Anand Mahindra shared a glimpse of it on X (formerly Twitter), praising the attraction as “absolutely stunning.” However, with characteristic humour, he admitted he’ll give it a pass saying that his relationship with heights is “complicated.”

A Skywalk in the Sky

The glass bridge extends 55 metres out from Kailasagiri, standing 862 feet above ground and 1,000 feet above sea level. Positioned close to the popular Titanic viewpoint, the walkway promises a thrilling yet awe-inspiring experience.

Globally, it may not rival China’s Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge measuring 430 metres long and 300 metres high but Vizag’s marvel holds its own with a dramatic vertical drop of 262 metres. Built with German-engineered tempered laminated glass, the bridge comprises three layers of 40 mm-thick panels supported by 40 tonnes of steel. Designed to withstand winds of up to 250 kmph, it can bear loads of 500 kg per square metre making it as strong as it is striking.

Safety is a top priority: only 40 visitors will be allowed at one time, with each group getting 5–10 minutes on the deck. Entry fees are expected to fall between ₹250 and ₹300, making it an affordable experience for both domestic and international tourists.

The Makers of the Marvel

This ambitious project is the result of a collaboration between SSM Shipping & Logistics (Vizag), Bharat Mata Ventures (Kerala) creators of the Vagamon Glass Bridge and the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). By spanning 55 metres, it officially surpasses Vagamon’s 38-metre structure, cementing its status as the longest glass skywalk in India.

What Visitors Can Look Forward To

360° Panoramas: From crashing waves of the Bay of Bengal to the sprawling Eastern Ghats and Vizag’s vibrant cityscape.

Adrenaline Meets Serenity: A thrilling step into the skies followed by moments of calm reflection.

Instagram-Worthy Spot: A perfect backdrop for travellers and photography enthusiasts.

Night-Time Glow: Soon to be lit with Tricolour-themed illuminations, the bridge will transform into a glowing spectacle after sunset.

With its unique mix of thrill, technology, and beauty, Vizag’s glass skywalk isn’t just an attraction, it’s set to become the city’s newest symbol of pride, drawing travellers from across India and beyond.
