Police said the moving truck’s driver appeared to have dozed off, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into the stationary truck

A fatal accident occurred on the Samruddhi Highway near Shahapur taluka in Maharashtra late Monday night, claiming the lives of a truck driver and his cleaner.
According to preliminary reports, one truck was parked on the roadside when another truck, travelling from Nagpur towards Mumbai, rammed into it.

The impact was severe, with an iron angle from the moving truck piercing into the cabin, killing both the driver and cleaner instantly.
Rescue teams extricated the bodies and sent them to Shahapur Sub-District Hospital for post-mortem examination, said officials.
Police carried out a spot inspection and registered a case.
The collision led to a brief traffic jam on the highway, which was later cleared, they added.
Shahapur police are investigating the case, with drowsy driving suspected to be the cause of the crash.
The Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, popularly known as the Samruddhi Highway, is a 701-km access-controlled expressway linking Nagpur and Mumbai.
The six-lane corridor, designed for expansion to eight lanes, was fully opened to traffic in March 2025. The project has cut travel time between the two cities to about eight hours.
