In a bizarre turn of events, panic and disbelief gripped villagers in Sagar district when a man presumed dead for nearly six hours suddenly stood up and told cops, “Sahab, main zinda hoon!” (Sir, I am alive).

According to a report in Hindustan, the incident occurred on the road between Dhanora and Bankhiriya villages under Khurai Rural Police Station limits. On Wednesday afternoon, locals spotted a man lying face down in the mud by the roadside. After hours of no movement, they assumed he was dead and informed the police.

Station in-charge Hukum Singh arrived with his team and even called for a hearse van. By then, a large crowd had gathered to witness what they believed was a corpse. But just as police and villagers bent down to lift the body, the “dead” man moved and then slowly stood up, and spoke in a trembling voice: “Sahab, main zinda hoon!”.

The shocking sight left onlookers scared, while some stepped back in fear, convinced they had seen a ghost.

Police later discovered the man was not dead but heavily intoxicated. He had lost balance, fallen into the mud, and remained motionless for hours due to extreme inebriation. His motorcycle was found parked nearby.

The dramatic episode, which initially looked like a mysterious death, ended up as a case of drunken stupor, but not before leaving the entire village shaken.
