Beauty today is not defined by glamour alone, it is also a marker of inner health and balance.

September 9 marks International Beauty Day, a celebration that increasingly reflects how much the idea of beauty has evolved. What was once viewed as surface-level indulgence has transformed into a conversation about health, confidence, and self-expression.

“International Beauty Day shows just how much things have changed in aesthetic medicine,” says Dr. Debraj Shome, Co-Founder and Director, The Esthetic Clinics (TEC). “The shame people used to feel about getting cosmetic treatments? That is largely gone. Now patients walk in and talk about these procedures the way they would discuss any other healthcare decision, matter-of-factly, without apology. They are not looking to become someone else; they want to look like a well-rested, refreshed version of themselves. And honestly, that is exactly what today’s techniques can deliver. Procedures are gentler, healing is quicker, and the results look completely natural. The whole industry has shifted away from dramatic makeovers toward what you might call thoughtful tweaks. It is about helping people feel at home in their own skin, not redesigning them entirely.”

Beauty today is not defined by glamour alone, it is also a marker of inner health and balance. “Beauty has never been just skin deep. It reflects a complex interplay of health, confidence, and self-expression,” says Dr. Rinky Kapoor, Director and Co-Founder, The Esthetic Clinics (TEC). “As dermatologists, our role goes beyond treating visible conditions; we help people understand how internal health, environmental factors, and preventive care shape the way skin responds and ages. What has changed in recent years is people’s willingness to address concerns early and invest in long-term skin health, not for vanity, but for overall well-being. International Beauty Day is a timely reminder of this shift, and a reflection of a broader truth: beauty is not about perfection, but about feeling whole, healthy, and confident in one’s own skin.”

As International Beauty Day reminds us, beauty is no longer a pursuit of flawlessness, it is about mindful choices, healthier habits, and embracing individuality. The celebration is less about chasing an ideal and more about recognising that true beauty comes from feeling comfortable, confident, and complete in one’s own skin.
