The police on Monday carried out searches at the official residence of Kerala chief minister and the Thiruvananthapuram District Court complex after an email was received claiming bombs have been planted at these locations.

The mail, sent to the district court’s official email ID in the morning, prompted immediate action, PTI quoted police as saying. The email reportedly contained references to Tamil Nadu politics.

Following this, teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the dog squad were dispatched to conduct the searched at the court complex and Cliff House, police said.

They further said that no explosives were found and the email was termed as hoax.

They added that a probe has been launched to identify the sender of the email and a case will be registered against the sender.

According to officials, about 28 such hoax emails have been received so far this year, usually targeting Cliff House, Raj Bhavan, airport and the courts.

A series of hoax threats

Last week, Mumbai’s Nair Hospital and Mumbai airport received a bomb threat via email on Saturday.

In these areas as well, the police did not find any suspicious objects or activities.

Earlier, a man named Ashwini Kumar threatened to blow up Mumbai city, claiming that multiple bombs in vehicles were planted across the city.

The man, who is an astrologer, claimed to be a member of a Pakistan-based jihadi group and also alleged that 14 terrorists had entered the city.

There has been a rise in reports of bomb threats from different parts of the country recently.
