A shocking tragedy struck Faridabad, Haryana, late on Sunday night when a powerful explosion in a split air conditioner triggered a fire that claimed the lives of three members of a family. The incident occurred around 1.30 am in Green Field Colony, leaving the neighbourhood in shock and sparking an immediate police and fire department response.

According to officials, the victims, identified as Sachin Kapoor, his wife Rinku, and their daughter Sujan, died of suffocation after thick smoke engulfed their home. Their son, Aryan, survived the blast but remains critical in the ICU, as described by police sources.

Reports said the family was asleep on the second floor of the building when the blast occurred. Neighbours recalled hearing a sudden loud explosion in the dead of night. “Suddenly there was a loud explosion in the silence of the night and seeing smoke coming out of the house,” they said, adding that the fire brigade and the police were immediately informed.

Two fire tenders were dispatched to the site and managed to bring the flames under control, but not before much of the house had been gutted. Firefighters faced immense difficulty navigating through the dense smoke that had quickly filled the residence.

The tragedy is believed to have originated from a split AC unit installed in the home of Rakesh Malik, who lived on the first floor. The flames spread upward, trapping Sachin Kapoor and his family on the second floor. Despite swift rescue efforts, three members of the Kapoor family succumbed.

Authorities have begun a detailed probe into the cause of the blast. Police confirmed that initial findings point to a malfunction in the AC unit, though a forensic team is expected to examine the charred remains of the appliance and wiring.

Residents of Green Field Colony gathered in large numbers outside the house as news of the accident spread. The area remained tense as officials carried out the rescue and recovery operations into the early hours of the morning.
