After unfollowing Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt and other celebs, Karan Johar says, ‘It’s a digital detox’

After triggering massive speculation online with his sudden Instagram unfollow spree, filmmaker Karan Johar has finally clarified why several Bollywood celebrities disappeared from his following list. The director-producer revealed that the move was simply part of a “digital detox” and not linked to any fallout with his industry friends.Putting all rumours to rest, Karan took to Instagram to clarify that the move had nothing to do with personal issues and was simply part of a social media detox.“It’s a DIGITAL DETOX!!!! Am unfollowing everyone to reduce my time and energy spent on the gram!!! This can’t be national news for god’s sake…please clickbait something else! This is irrelevant!” he wrote.

Celebrities Karan Johar unfollowed

Earlier, netizens had noticed that several prominent Bollywood names no longer appeared on Karan Johar’s following list. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the filmmaker had reportedly unfollowed Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Kartik Aaryan, Ananya Panday and Manish Malhotra, among others.Interestingly, Priyanka Chopra continued to remain on his following list, which had further fuelled online discussions. At one point, Karan’s Instagram account showed that he was following only 78 accounts despite having over 17 million followers on the platform.

On the work front, Karan Johar recently backed Chand Mera Dil, starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday. The film received mixed reviews and saw a modest run at the box office.Up next, the filmmaker is producing Naagzilla, starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role.
