Manchester United star close to shock loan exit after transfer agreement with Turkish club: Report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly planning an exit for another one of his star players and is in talks with Turkish club Trabzonspor. However, the big twist here is that the final decision lies with the concerned player.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana could be leaving Old Trafford on loan this season itself. Ruben Amorim’s side has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Turkish club Trabzonspor regarding the transfer of the 29-year-old Cameroonian, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

There were rumours all summer about Onana’s potential exit, but none of the reported deals materialised. However, a fresh report has emerged claiming that Onana might leave United very soon. “Trabzonspor reach verbal agreement with Manchester United to sign André Onana on loan. Club to club verbal agreement in place and final decision now up to Onana,” Romano said.

Why might Onana leave?

Onana’s place at United has been under threat after the club signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on the last day of the summer transfer window for a reported transfer fee of £18.1 million (over Rs 215 crore). Turkish keeper Altay Bayindir has been Amorim’s first preference this season, with Onana warming the bench in all 2025-26 Premier League games so far.

Onana had also missed United’s pre-season tour to the United States due to injury. Now, United are willing to let him leave, and Onana is said to be seriously considering the move to Trabzonspor. Both clubs are reportedly waiting for his decision.

The Turkish transfer window is open until Friday, September 12, which gives Onana five days to complete the deal. Trabzonspor are currently second in the Turkish Super Lig. Onana will benefit if he moves to Turkey, as he is highly unlikely to start for United with Lammens, Bayindir, and Tom Heaton being Amorim’s main options.
