Marking 20 years since the release of Koi… Mil Gaya, veteran actress Rekha opened up about her time working with Rakesh Roshan. She praised his vision, creativity, and dedication to filmmaking, sharing how the director’s passion and unique approach left a lasting impression on her and helped make the film a timeless blockbuster.

Rakesh Roshan’s vision and love for cinema

Rekha, in an interview with IANS, praised Rakesh Roshan, saying he is deeply rooted in Indian culture and traditions yet ahead of his time. She added that films have always been his first love and admired his exceptional sense of music, inherited from his father Roshan Sahab and brother Rajesh Roshan.

Celebrating the Indian woman on screen

The veteran actress further shared that the actor-director sees the Indian woman as the ultimate superwoman, a modern-day ‘Devi Maa’ who multitasks and embodies the spirit of today’s woman. She said she feels a strong connection with his vision and the characters she has played in his films, from Koi… Mil Gaya and Krrish to Khoon Bhari Maang. Rekha added that it’s rare for someone to excel both as an actor and a director, and compared her admiration for him to the respect she has always had for Raj Kapoor Sahab, noting that Rakesh Roshan has proven his mettle as a filmmaker.She further described him as ‘one of the most prolific directors of our times’ for his work in producing and directing Koi… Mil Gaya. She added that, even after 20 years, Rakesh Roshan is re-releasing Koi… Mil Gaya in theaters across India—a remarkable achievement in an era when theatrical releases are a distant dream for many filmmakers.

The ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ actress concluded by saying that for Guddu ji, as she fondly calls him, achieving the impossible comes naturally.
