The Delhi High Court has directed astrologer Umang Taneja, known for using humour and sarcasm to ‘expose’ and debunk celebrity astrologers, to take down defamatory videos and photos of another astrologer, Trishla Chaturvedi.

Chaturvedi, who goes by the name “Trishla Maa” on social media, had moved the court, accusing Taneja of posting defamatory content against her.

On September 4, a single judge bench of Justice Amit Bansal noted that the clips, prima facie, were derogatory in nature and ordered the deletion of YouTube and Instagram videos titled “Trishla Maa Ka Sangharsh – 10 Hazaar Har Varsh” and “Chutki Sindoor Par Bhaari Chutki Namak”.

The court also noted that similar cases were registered against Taneja in the past.

The bench noted that the videos were intended to damage the plaintiff’s reputation by accusing her of practising black magic and by circulating a morphed photograph depicting her as a drug abuser.

The court noted that a prima facie case was established against Taneja, as the presence of the defamatory content was likely to cause irreparable harm and injury to her reputation. He also restrained the astrologer from making any defamatory posts and videos against Chaturvedi till the next date of hearing on January 20.

Chaturvedi, in her petition, sought a permanent and mandatory injunction against Taneja to refrain him from making any further posts targeting her. She cited a video where Taneja can be heard calling her a ‘cheap guest,’ allegedly in an attempt to tarnish her reputation.

The conflict between the two parties began after Taneja uploaded a video targeting Chaturvedi’s alleged remarks on “tantrik remedies” and shared purported clips of her smoking during a shoot.

His latest post was of Chaturvedi reportedly speaking about “tantra” using blood discharged during the menstrual cycle.

Chaturvedia claims to be a practitioner of Vedic astrology for over 20 years and also runs a YouTube channel with over 1.29 million subscribers.

On the other hand, Taneja is an astrologer who frequently shares videos challenging the assertions of well-known astrologers. A glance at his Instagram posts further reveals him ridiculing celebrity astrologers.
