RJ Balaji and Suriya's 'Karuppu' team release statement after upsetting Ilaiyaraaja; promise to delete controversial dialogue

The makers of the film ‘Karuppu’ starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan and directed by RJ Balaji, have apologized to music legend Ilaiyaraaja. In an official announcement, they addressed that a dialogue in the film had upset him, and the team explained that they never wanted to hurt him in any way. Let’s take a look at the public note they shared on social media.They wrote, “We understand that a particular dialogue appearing in Karuppu has caused concern and has upset him. We sincerely regret that the dialogue has resulted in such sentiments.”

‘Karuppu’ makers share an apology

The production house took to their X (formerly Twitter) handle and wrote, “There was absolutely no intention to offend, hurt, or disrespect Mr. Ilaiyaraaja, his contribution, or his rights in any manner. The reference formed part of a broader satirical context and was not conceived as a personal remark directed at him.” The makers said they respect Ilaiyaraaja a lot. They also said his music and work have inspired many people across the world. They added that they deeply value his feelings.

‘Karuppu’ makers announce changes in the film

The team also said they will make changes in the film. They said the concerned dialogue will be removed or modified in future versions of ‘Karuppu’. They also said this change will be done in all future releases and screenings. The makers said this step is taken as a mark of respect for Ilaiyaraaja.“However, we deeply value and respect his feelings and, as a gesture of our regard, we have decided to remove/modify the concerned portion in future versions and subsequent exploitations of the film. We extend our sincere regards and continue to hold him in the highest respect,” they added.

About ‘Karuppu’

In ‘Karuppu’, Suriya plays Saravanan, a lawyer who later takes the form of local deity Karuppusamy. The story follows a father and daughter trapped within a corrupt legal system. With respect to its box office run, on day 4, the film has crossed over Rs 140 crore worldwide. As per trade analyst Sacnilk, the film added Rs 14.30 crore to its total on Monday in India across 5,947 shows. Go to Source
