‘KGF’ star Yash is playing a much larger role than just the lead in the upcoming actioner ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’. The actor is also involved as a writer and producer and the pan-India film has generated major anticipation. After the success of KGF, Yash is now overseeing several aspects of filmmaking while preparing to deliver the central performance.

Writing first, production later

In an interview with Variety, Yash explained that he approaches each responsibility with a different mindset. He said creativity must remain unrestricted while writing. He shared, “When you’re writing, you should not think like a producer when you’re writing on paper. But once it’s written, the next point is to think as a producer — what are the logistics, how much does this take, how much business sense does it make. Because by the end of the day, a lot of people depend on cinema, so many people work on it, their livelihood depends on this profession.”Yash said that after completing the script, he begins focusing on logistics, budgets, and business decisions. He noted that filmmaking involves many workers whose livelihoods depend on the industry.

Acting carries the final responsibility

The actor said his priorities shift again when he steps before the camera. At that stage, he concentrates solely on communicating the vision of the writer and director through his performance. “And then when I come on screen, I only think about what the writer or director is trying to say through that scene. As an actor, I carry all the responsibilities because everybody gives their best work, but if the actor doesn’t anchor it properly, everything goes for waste,” he added.Yash emphasized that the actor serves as the final link in translating the efforts of the entire team to the audience.

Yash explains the film’s release delay

Earlier this year, Yash confirmed that Toxic would miss its planned June 4 release date. He said the film itself is complete, but discussions are underway to secure global distribution and strategic partnerships.Talking about the delay, Yash said, “Right now I’ve taken a decision of taking my time and releasing this film. That is really something my fans or people in India will not like. They’ll be upset because culturally you’re used to like once you start shooting the film, there is a timeline in their head. And unfortunately, marketing happens even if you don’t want to. The moment we start shooting, people start writing about it.”“In the West, everything starts when you finish the film. If somebody wants to buy the film or if somebody wants to be part of the film, they want to see the film because huge money is involved. Those are the things which is a challenge, but I think I have faith in my people, so they understand what we are trying to do is something what we all should do.”

‘Toxic’ positioned for worldwide expansion

Yash also addressed the delay in a statement shared on Instagram, “There are films we make, and then there are films that remind us why we fell in love with cinema. Toxic has been one such journey. Presenting our film at CinemaCon and witnessing the overwhelming global response reaffirmed what we have always believed—that this film deserves to reach its fullest potential worldwide,” read the statement.Written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas, ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ is one of the highly awaited projects this year.
