'Kara' box office collections day 16: Dhanush film drops sharply; Collects just Rs 18 lakh as Suriya's 'Karuppu' opens big

Dhanush’s ‘Kara’ is experiencing slowdown at the box office as fresh competition arrives in theatres.On Day 16, the film collected Rs 16 lakhs net in India, which is approximately Rs 18 lakh. According to Sacnilk, the film was screened in 339 shows and recorded an overall occupancy of 20.0 percent. The latest numbers indicate a significant drop in daily earnings.

Recent trends of ‘Kara’ and total India collection

‘Kara’ had posted better numbers in the previous two days. On Day 15, the film earned Rs 69 lakhs net from 963 shows and registered 20.3 percent occupancy. On Day 14, it added Rs 80 lakhs net across 1,723 shows with 16.4 percent occupancy. The film’s second-week collection stood at Rs 6.54 crore. Its cumulative India net collection has now reached Rs 36.96 crore.

‘Kara’ state-wise gross collections led by Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu remains the strongest market for ‘Kara’ by a wide margin. The state has contributed Rs 29.57 crore in gross collections so far. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have added Rs 7.98 crore. Karnataka has contributed Rs 3.14 crore, while Kerala has added Rs 61 lakhs.The rest of India accounts for Rs 28 lakhs. With these contributions, the film’s total India gross has reached Rs 41.58 crore.

‘Karuppu’ opens strong

Meanwhile, Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s ‘Karuppu’ has entered theatres with a strong opening.According to Sacnilk, ‘Karuppu’ collected Rs 14.40 crore net in India on Day 1 from 4,891 shows. Its India gross stood at Rs 16.66 crore. The Tamil version alone contributed Rs 12.00 crore net. It also registered an overall occupancy of 54.0 percent across 3,448 shows.

Worldwide total gives ‘Karuppu’ a flying start

‘Karuppu’ has also posted impressive numbers in overseas markets. The film grossed Rs 4.00 crore internationally on its opening day.
