Celebrations erupted in Dhar after the Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court delivered its landmark verdict in the long-running Bhojshala dispute, recognizing the site as a temple linked to Goddess Saraswati and granting Hindus the right to worship there. Soon after the judgment was announced, large numbers of people gathered near the Bhojshala complex and surrounding temple areas, chanting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans and celebrating what they described as a historic victory after decades of legal and religious struggle. Supporters said the verdict honored years of efforts and sacrifices made by Hindu groups seeking recognition of Bhojshala as a temple. Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side, called the ruling “historic” and stated that the court had partially quashed the Archaeological Survey of India’s April 7, 2003 order that earlier allowed namaz at the complex. According to him, the High Court recognized Bhojshala as a center of learning linked to Raja Bhoj and granted Hindu devotees the right to perform worship. The court also reportedly directed the government to consider representations regarding the return of a Saraswati idol believed to be kept in a museum in London. In addition, the judgment stated that the Muslim side may apply to the government for alternative land for mosque-related purposes at a non-disputed location. Security arrangements remained tight around Dhar as authorities monitored the situation following the emotionally charged verdict. Political and religious reactions are expected to continue as the ruling is discussed nationwide.
