A debate competition at Indore’s Devi Ahilya University auditorium turned into a political arena on Thursday as the arguments presented by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava’s son, Sanghamitra, stunned the dignitaries in attendance.

He fired questions on unkept promises of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project. “Crores of rupees have been spent, there have been scams in land acquisition, but the bullet train couldn’t move beyond the government’s PowerPoint presentation,” he said as reported by BhaskarEnglish.

Notably, among the dignitaries, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar were in attendance. After hearing Sanghamitra’s speech, they too burst into laughter.

Taking a jibe at plans to upgrade 400 railway stations into “airport-like” hubs, Sanghamitra said “only 20 have taken off”. “From there also comes the public’s voice that there are shining boards here, but drinking water is expensive,” he said.

Congress leader and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh praised the orator, calling Sanghamitra an “impressive speaker”.

“Sanghamitra Bhargav is a quite impressive speaker. Congratulations,” he said in a post on X.

Meanwhile, CM Yadav said that in debate competitions, one has to speak the role assigned. He got the role of opposition, so he spoke like the opposition. Yadav said that such debate competitions bring forth good speakers from the new generation.
