A woman IPS officer triggered a row after she got involved in a heated argument with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar over her action against illegal soil excavation in a village. DSP Anjali Krishna allegedly refused to recognise Ajit Pawar’s voice over a phone call.

The incident took place when Krishna had gone to investigate illegal murum (red soil) excavation linked to a road construction project in Solapur’s Karmala village. NCP leader Baba Jagtap called Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and handed over the phone to officer Krishna, after which a heated argument ensued.

Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar said his intention was only to ensure the situation on the ground remained calm and did not escalate further. “Let me state clearly that my intention was not to interfere with law enforcement but to ensure that the situation on the ground remained calm and did not escalate further,” he said on X.

“I remain firmly committed to transparent governance and to ensuring that every illegal activity, including sand mining, is dealt with strictly as per the law,” he added.

Meanwhile, reacting the whole incident, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare said the video has been deliberately leaked. “Ajit Dada may have chided the IPS officer to placate party workers. He didn’t mean to stop the action completely,” Tatkare said.
