Meg Marinis explains ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 22 ending and cliffhanger

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season finale explained: Meg Marinis talks character departure, proposals, and cliffhangers

One of the main things about the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 22 finale was the fact that main actors Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd would officially be saying goodbye to their characters. While it has been shared that they will occasionally appear on the show if/when needed, the goodbye was still a bittersweet experience. In a recent interview, showrunner Meg Marinis opened up about the ending of season 22 of the hit show, along with what it entails for some of the characters on the show.

Meg Marinis explains the ending of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 22

While talking to Deadline, Marinis opened up and git candid about the cliffhanger of season 22 finale, and what is left in store for the characters in the future season(s).While talking about Meredith and Nick’s proposal surprise, the showrunner said that it was a choice, even though Meredith never really wanted to get married after what happened with Derek. She added, “I think marriage is not something that is ingrained in her, but clearly, when she heard the story of how he wanted to get married in the middle of the season, when his sister came to visit, and how his sister had taken away this happy life from him, I think that got put in the back of her mind that that is something that he’d always wanted.”Harry Shum Jr. and his character Kwan were also a hot topic of discussion, with his return to the series still a mystery. Marinis said that his return is still up for debate as the character had already been fired twice in the final two episodes of season 22. “His fate is still undecided. Blue is scared out of his mind, so we’ll just have to see when we come back in the fall. He doesn’t have a job at Grey Sloan right now, so we’ll have to see what happens to him,” she concluded.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 22 finale recap

The finale first showed an uncertain future for Owen because of the bridge collapse; however, it was later revealed that Nick was the one who had ended up getting critically hurt. He was at risk, and Bailey had to perform an emergency surgery on him after Meredith requested her to do so.Later on, Meredith proposes to Nick as he lies in his hospital bed recovering, an ode to the first time they met when he was admitted to her hospital with a failing liver. Nick, of course, ends up saying yes, and the surprise proposal ends up becoming one of the major high points of the season finale.Another major turn of events was brought on by Toni, who goes to Amelia’s to tell her that she is falling in love with her, only to find out that Amelia and Cass had slept together. It’s also revealed that Simone and Lucas also sleep together, after Wes had told Simone that he wanted to go steady with her, bringing back the once dormant love triangle onto the main space.
