Manchester United hint at future plans with decisions on three players

Manchester United’s transfer decisions regarding three young players give a hint towards their future planning under coach Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United’s transfer dealings in the 2025 summer transfer window targeted the attacking areas and the goalkeeper position, but hidden between all the deals is a possible message for a few Under-21 players and about what the club is planning for the future.

Ruben Amorim’s Man United spent a whopping £215 million in the summer transfer window, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Diego Leon and Senne Lammens. They also shipped out Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho among others.

United also sent 10 Under-21 players out on loan as they left Old Trafford in search of senior-level football at different clubs and different leagues, but three shining upcoming talents have been retained by United.

Man United stop three young players from leaving club

Gabriele Biancheri, despite being linked with a number of clubs, has stayed back along with Sekou Kone and Shea Lacey. They continue to be a part of the Manchester United Under-21 team, but their retentions also hint towards a possibility that they may get some first-team action this season under Amorim.

Biancheri, Kone and Lacey are all products of Manchester United’s academy and are expected to play a big role for Travis Binnion’s Under-21 team this season. But by keeping hold of them, the English Premier League side United have sent a signal that they are looking at these players as possible replacements for first-team players in case of injuries or any unexpected contingency.

Without European football and the League Cup, Man United won’t be required to shuffle their teams a lot, but if the opportunity comes, Biancheri, Kone and Lacey are on standbys.

While Biancheri plays as a forward, Kone is a defensive midfielder, an area where United are looking thin. Lacey is a winger.

United negotiated with a few defensive midfielders in the summer, including Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, but did not make any concrete offer. For now, Amorim has placed his faith in Casemiro, Manual Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo.
