The move comes as state governments across India explore incentive-led strategies to encourage EV adoption.Telangana is stepping up efforts to boost electric vehicle adoption, with MG Motor India committing to offer up to 20 per cent exclusive discounts on its EV portfolio for state government employees.
The announcement was made by Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar through LinkedIn post, where he said the commitment was made following discussions with the company.
“I am pleased to welcome MG Motor India as the latest partner in our mission to electrify Telangana,” Prabhakar said, adding that the automaker has agreed to provide the discount as part of the state’s broader EV push.
The minister said Telangana’s EV policy aims to make electric mobility more accessible by removing 100 per cent of road tax and registration fees on EVs, along with encouraging automakers to extend special corporate discounts to government staff.
He also highlighted that the initiative is being driven under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, positioning the state as a “market-maker” for the EV industry.
Prabhakar said Telangana is building partnerships with multiple OEMs to accelerate the transition, naming Mahindra Electric, Tata Motors, Ola Electric, Gravton Motors, Ather Energy and Maruti Suzuki Nexa among companies already associated with the programme.
“With these incentives, we are making premium electric mobility affordable for our public servants,” he said.
The move comes as state governments across India explore incentive-led strategies to encourage EV adoption, while automakers look to expand their EV customer base through targeted schemes and fleet-driven sales channels.
