Smokey Davidson’s defamation claims dismissed

Smokey Davidson’s defamation claims dismissed amid ongoing sexual assault case: Report

Trigger warning: This article includes references to sexual abuse.Smokey Robinson and his wife, Frances Robinson, had earlier filed defamation claims against former employees who accused him of sexual assault. Now, as per the latest reports, a judge has officially dismissed his plea. Here’s what we know about the case and its recent developments. The musician’s claim that his employees filed a case to defame him has been dismissed by a judge. PEOPLE reported that Judge Kevin C. Brazile threw out the plea, citing insufficient evidence to hold the accusers or their legal team liable for defamation. The ruling was delivered during a hearing held on April 23. In his order, the judge stated, “There is evidence supporting the Robinsons, including inconsistencies and unusual circumstances, like encouraging a sister to work after the assaults. However, the evidence of actual malice does not approach the clear and convincing standard.”He further added that Robinson and his legal team failed to establish that the opposing side acted with “actual malice,” which is required to sustain a defamation claim. As a result, the case has been dismissed. This is not the only legal action taken by the Robinsons. They have also alleged that the plaintiffs’ side deleted crucial evidence and stole personal property. These claims are currently under investigation and await a formal ruling.Four women who previously worked for Robinson have filed a sexual assault lawsuit against him. In response, he filed a countersuit seeking $500 million, accusing them of defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and financial elder abuse.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source. The details represent allegations made by the parties involved and are not proven facts. The case is ongoing, and a final verdict has not been reached.
