Mahindra & Mahindra patent count rises to 1,334 in FY26 in major R&D push

The company said its patent portfolio includes filings by its subsidiary, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd.

Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday said that its number of granted patents has increased from 56 in FY16 to 1,334 in FY26, reflecting a handsome growth over the past decade and the company’s push towards gaining technological edge in the competitive automotive market.

The company’s cumulative patent applications reached 2,728 as of March 2026. Of the total granted patents, 60 per cent relate to the automotive business, while 40 per cent are linked to the farm business.

The conversion rate of applications to granted patents improved from 8 per cent in FY16 to more than 65 per cent for applications filed over the decade.

The company said its patent portfolio includes filings by its subsidiary, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd.

Mahindra & Mahindra said the increase in patents reflects its investment in research and development and focus on innovation under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The company added that it has received awards related to intellectual property and innovation over the past year, including recognition from the Confederation of Indian Industry and the CMO Asia Awards.

It said the patent portfolio supports developments across its automotive and farm segments.
