'Say sorry': How an Indian woman confronted Bangladeshi waiter for making anti-India remarks in Italy in viral video

Group of Indian women stand up to waiter using offensive slurs in Italy, police intervene.

A heated argument at a restaurant in Italy has gone viral after an Indian woman and her friends confronted a waiter over anti-India remarks and demanded that he apologise. The incident was shared on Instagram by influencer Khushi Dubey, who posts under the handle @khushicupcake5.In a video titled “This is what happened with us in Italy,” Dubey recorded an exchange with a waiter identified as Hossain, who made offensive comments about India and Indian customers. The clip begins with an argument over a payment issue, although it remains unclear what sparked the dispute. During the confrontation, the waiter can be heard saying: “f**k off you, I call the police.”The women objected to his tone. One of them responded: “You know what? Mind your language. We are ladies first of all, okay?”As the argument continued, Hossain turned his attention to the group’s nationality. At one point, he said: “You carry your country badly.” According to the video, one of Khushi’s friends replied, “We’re from Bangladesh that’s why,” sarcastically attempting to challenge him.The exchange soon became more heated. The waiter was then heard saying: “You’re from f***ing India.”Another woman responded: “Mr Hossain, be respectful. You should know how to respect women.”The comments left the group upset. In the footage, Khushi could also be heard telling her friends in Hindi: “Yaar usko paise do aur chalo warna I’ll slap him.” Despite the confrontation, the women continued to challenge the waiter over discriminatory and anti-India remarks.Eventually, two Italian police officers arrived at the scene. In the presence of the officers, the women said that the waiter acknowledge his comments and issue a proper apology.Hossain appeared reluctant and attempted to move past the issue, but the group refused to let the matter end without an apology”No, sir, please say, I’m sorry for abusing India,” one of the women told him.Khushi also urged him to apologise, saying: “SAY, I AM SORRY FOR ABUSING INDIA.”When the waiter tried to avoid the discussion, the women continued pressing him for accountability.”You have to say that. You only said that ‘I will call the police,'” one of them added.Following the incident, Dubey shared her thoughts online, saying the episode showed how Indians are sometimes unfairly stereotyped or blamed while travelling abroad.”Every time it’s not Indians who are at fault, sometimes, it is people who discriminate us. Always have respect for your country. Jai Hind,” Dubey wrote.
