New Delhi: Renault’s compact SUV Duster on Monday achieved a five-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), according to the latest fact sheet released for the model.

The Duster scored 30.49 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), the assessment document said.

The vehicle was tested in 2026 across multiple variants including Evolution (1.3L MT), Techno (1.3L DCT) and Iconic (1.3L MT). The tested model is manufactured in India and had a crash test weight of 1,621 kg, as per the Bharat NCAP document.

Francisco Hidalgo-Marques, VP, Sales & Marketing, Renault Group India said “With this latest achievement, the Duster now also makes a compelling case for rational buyers combining one of the best fuel efficiency figures in the segment with a 5-star BNCAP safety rating for adult and child occupant protection, and the added reassurance of a best in-market 7 year warranty.”

In the adult protection tests, the Duster scored 14.49 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and achieved a full 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The side pole impact test was marked as “OK”.

For child occupant protection, the SUV achieved the maximum 24 points in the dynamic score and also scored full points in child restraint system installation assessment. The overall COP score was supported by ISOFIX availability on outboard rear seats.

The fact sheet noted that safety assist technologies such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection system and seat belt reminders are available as standard across variants. Curtain airbags were also listed as standard fitment.

The Bharat NCAP rating is applicable to a range of Duster variants assessed in March 2026, including trims such as Authentic, Evolution, Techno and Iconic, along with their sub-variants.

V Vikraman, Chief of Renault Engineering, India, added “This result is rooted in engineering execution on the ground. The Duster was subjected to extensive simulations, physical crash tests, and system-level validations, with a strong focus on real-world Indian driving conditions. From body structure performance to restraint calibration and electronic safety systems, every element was engineered, tested and refined to work together.”
