New Delhi: German luxury carmaker BMW Group India is targeting to double sales of its premium small-car brand Mini in India this year, driven by an expanded product portfolio, localisation and a wider retail network, Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India told PTI.

Mini sold 730 units in 2025, registering a growth of 3 per cent over the previous year. In the January–March quarter of 2026, Mini sales rose 42 per cent year-on-year to 213 units, the company said.

“This year, the plan is to double the volumes… this will be the best ever year for Mini, if we are able to do that,” Brar told PTI.

To achieve this target, the company is adopting a three-pronged strategy focused on new products, local assembly and retail expansion.

New products lineup

On the product front, Brar said Mini will roll out one new product and nine special editions in 2026. A key driver will be the launch of the locally produced Mini Countryman, scheduled for the middle of the year.

The locally produced Countryman will be “a pivotal enabler to scale volumes and improve accessibility,” Brar said, adding that Mini has been constrained over the past two years due to a limited portfolio in India, largely restricted to the Mini Cooper S Hatch and Mini Countryman Electric.

However, BMW has expanded the lineup in the past six months with new offerings such as the Mini Convertible, Mini Countryman JCW ALL4, and Mini Countryman SE ALL4.

Brar said demand for petrol-powered Minis has remained strong, and the contribution of petrol models is expected to rise further with the local Countryman launch.

“We expect the petrol contribution to go up to 70 per cent… In quarter one (2026), it has already jumped to 70 per cent,” he said.

Expansion strategy

As part of its retail strategy, BMW plans to expand Mini’s footprint to 22 touchpoints by end-2026, up from the current 13, entering eight new cities. Mini has already added touchpoints in Jaipur and Jodhpur in Q1 and plans to expand to Lucknow, Ranchi, Guwahati, Surat, Vijayawada and Cuttack later this year. The expansion is aimed at strengthening Mini’s presence beyond metros and unlocking demand in tier 2 markets, Brar said.

In aftersales, Mini customers continue to benefit from BMW Group India’s service network, with service availability at 52 touchpoints across 40 cities.

Brar said Mini continues to play an important role in BMW Group India’s overall brand strategy, helping attract new customers and enabling cross-selling between BMW and Mini showrooms.

“We see customers coming into our showrooms coming to buy a BMW, goes and takes a look at Mini, and vice-versa,” he said.
