Asia Cup hockey 2025 schedule, squads, teams, match dates, venues and Live Streaming details: All you need to know

The 12th edition of the Men’s Asia Cup hockey tournament is scheduled to be held from August 29 to September 7. The tournament will take place in Rajgir, Bihar. South Korea will enter the quadrennial tournament as defending champion.

The 12th edition of the highly anticipated Men’s Asia Cup 2025 hockey tournament is scheduled to start on Friday, August 29 in Rajgir, Bihar. A total of eight teams, divided into two groups of four teams each, will compete in the showpiece event. The winner of the tournament will directly qualify for next year’s FIH World Cup, while the teams finishing second to sixth will qualify for the World Cup qualifiers.

Having won the tournament three times in the past (2003, 2007, and 2017), the bronze medalists of the last two Summer Olympics, India, will enter with high expectations, but the recent form of Craig Fulton’s team does not ooze out much confidence and keeps India away from the favourite’s tag. As for the current rankings, India are ranked seventh in the world.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The Indian men’s hockey team failed to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup through the European leg of the FIH Pro League 2024-25. India managed to win only one game out of their eight games, and lost seven in a row – the longest losing streak in India’s history. However, they need to start afresh for this tournament, and would have to move from strength to strength.

Format, groups and teams

The tournament follows a traditional exhaustive format, each team in both groups will take on every other team in their respective groups, and after they have met each other once, the top two teams with the most points in both groups will qualify for the Super 4s stage.

In this stage**,** the four teams will face each other, and once they have faced each other once, the top two teams will be determined and will advance to the final. The final of the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 will take place on September 7, 2025. The third and fourth-placed teams will play in the third-place playoff on the same day.

The 8 teams are divided into two groups:

  • Pool A: India, Japan, China, Kazakhstan

  • Pool B:  South Korea, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei

Notably, Pakistan and Oman were originally expected to compete but upon their withdrawal from the competition, Bangladesh and Kazakhstan have been included as replacements.
