PSL 2026:The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 has been hit by a massive controversy as star opener Fakhar Zaman officially challenged his two-match suspension. The veteran left-hander was banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following allegations of ball-tampering during a high-voltage clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Zaman, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing, filed a formal appeal with the PSL Technical Committee on Wednesday, seeking a total reversal of the penalty that currently rules him out of two crucial upcoming fixtures.

5 Penalty Runs and a Stolen Victory

The drama unfolded in the final over of the Karachi Kings’ chase. With Karachi needing 14 runs to win, a brief huddle took place between Fakhar Zaman, captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, and pacer Haris Rauf.

The Umpire’s Call: On-field umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Aafreedi noticed irregularities and immediately inspected the ball.

The Penalty: Ruling that the ball’s condition had been deliberately altered, the officials awarded five penalty runs to Karachi and ordered a ball change. The Fallout: The target was slashed to just nine runs, which Karachi chased down with three balls to spare, leaving the defending champions stunned.

Zaman’s Defence: “I Am Innocent”

Despite the video footage allegedly showing the batter pressing the ball, Fakhar has rejected all charges. According to reports from Geo News, the 35-year-old requested a full disciplinary inquiry, maintaining that he did not man-handle the ball as suggested.

The Qalandars management, including team director Sameen Rana and manager Farooq Anwar, stood by their player during the hearing. Captain Shaheen Afridi also noted that the team would review the footage further before making any deeper comments on the “unfair” penalty.
