‘Women need to shut up!’: Christian nationalist duo spark massive outrage with shocking viral rant

The digital landscape has erupted into a firestorm of controversy following a viral video on X (formerly Twitter). Joel Webbon, a Texas pastor leading Right Response Ministries, and co-host Wesley Todd are facing intense backlash over remarks targeting women’s roles in society and the church. The clip, highlighted by Right Wing Watch, captures the duo arguing that female leadership is an “offense to God.”In the video, Todd claimed that in the word of god and in the nature that he made, god said “women need to shut up.” “They need to be quiet, they don’t get to call shots, they don’t get to rule because they do stupid things,” said Todd. Webbon agreed with his co-host, claiming that it might sound harsh, mean and not Christian, but the statement is actually “so biblical and pleasing to god.”

“Your daughter needs to shut up in your home when she is talking to daddy? No, that’s not what we are talking,” he said, while specifically mentioning the arenas where women should not speak up. In the public square, in ruling civil positions of government, in the church, in the positions of authority, and when it comes to making decisions in the household, with men as the “federal head” of the family, Webbon said, “Absolutely, Wes is right, women, shut up!” He also called women speaking out “literally an offence to god!” Numerous netizens took to calling out Todd and Webbon for their remarks online. “But I thought the right-wing men supported and loved women? Hmm- seems all they want is CONTROL. TOTAL CONTROL.” one user wrote. “They seem to forget that God appointed Queen Esther to lead an army. Time to study up.” said another.“When Joel Webbon and his bros get tired of dehumanizing Black people, they switch to dehumanizing women,” claimed another. The clip was from a recent episode of their podcast titled ‘Homosexuals, Jezebels & Why England is becoming Catholic’ where they criticised the appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as the Archbishop of Canterbury, calling it against the light of “scripture and nature.”Todd and Webbon cited the examples of Mullally who is “pro-abortion” and an “Indian” Anglican priestess who recommended using sex toys for joy to base their claims that women should keep quiet. Webbon also added that for a woman to find a good man, she should be “quiet, peacable, and stop competing with men.” In another video aired on their YouTube channel NXR Studios, the duo claimed that female pastors were not allowed in the church since it was a “word of god,” they followed it because they were conservatives and women were “incapable” of doing it well. Webbon even stated that he would change the voting system to a more “representative” one where the males- brothers, fathers, husbands voted for the larger family. Some videos have shocking titles like ‘A godly woman wears what her husband wants’ and the ‘Era of girl boss is over.’However, this is not an isolated incident for the duo. Previously, in February 2025, Todd entered hot waters for claiming pregnant women should not be allowed to serve in office, calling it “stupid.” Whereas Webbon, has made multiple remarks similar to this before in their videos.
