The passing of veteran actor Asrani has left the industry in mourning, but for Rajpal Yadav, the loss is deeply personal. The actor revealed that he could not attend Asrani’s last rites, a regret he carries as he remembers working closely with him until the very end. The actor passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 84 in Mumbai after battling health issues, including respiratory complications.

‘I couldn’t attend his last rites’

Speaking to News18, Rajpal shared an emotional account of the time surrounding Asrani’s demise. “I had just shot with him and even shared a meal. But during that time, there was a personal situation — my father was in the ICU. By the time the shoot ended, I got the news. I couldn’t make it for his last rites,” he said.

Reuniting for Bhooth Bangla

Rajpal and Asrani were recently working together on Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan. The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Paresh Rawal, among others. The film will release in theatres on April 10. Recalling their time on set, Rajpal described an atmosphere filled with warmth and laughter. “Whenever Asrani sir was around, the entire unit would gather. Even during breaks, he would entertain everyone. We would end up laughing uncontrollably. He would steal the show every time,” he said.

‘As long as Indian cinema exists, he will remain immortal’

Calling him a master of entertainment, Rajpal noted, “People say entertainment is a science — he was like a teacher of that. The way he performed, understood humour, and connected with people was extraordinary.” Paying tribute to the veteran actor, Rajpal concluded, “Legends like him don’t fade away. They live on through their work. Asrani sir will always remain alive in our hearts. He is a great legend. As long as Indian cinema exists, he will remain immortal. Absolutely true. May his blessings always remain with us. One day, everyone has to go, but to keep working till the very end… may God give his soul peace.” Go to Source
