Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has landed in fresh controversy even as it continues its dream run at the box office. An urgent plea has reportedly been made before the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the film’s release in Tamil Nadu, citing concerns over the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Plea cites political content, election timing

According to Live Law, an advocate made an oral mention before Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan, arguing that the film deals with political themes and should not be screened during the election period. With Tamil Nadu set to go to the polls in a month, the timing of the film’s release has become a point of contention. However, the bench directed the petitioner to file a formal writ petition and then seek an urgent hearing. A decision on whether the release will be halted is likely only after the court takes up the plea.

Box office storm continues

Amid the legal buzz, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, is rewriting box office records. The spy thriller has emerged as the second Indian film after Pushpa 2 to post a massive opening weekend, raking in Rs 761 crore globally within four days of its release.Backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the film has set new benchmarks across territories. While Pushpa 2 leads with Rs 795.50 crore in its first four days, Dhurandhar has surpassed big-ticket films like Baahubali 2, RRR, and KGF 2 in opening weekend performance.
