‘Prem Ki Shaadi’: Ayushmann to revive iconic role in Barjatya’s film

'Prem Ki Shaadi': Ayushmann Khurrana to revive the iconic role in Sooraj Barjatya's new film after replacing Salman Khan - Report

For over 30 years, the iconic character of ‘Prem’ has been synonymous with actor Salman Khan in all of director Sooraj Barjatya’s films. From ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ to ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, Khan’s portrayal of the quintessential family hero has become an inseparable part of Rajshri Productions’ legacy. Now, in a major shift, Barjatya is set to introduce a new face to the iconic role, casting Ayushmann Khurrana in his upcoming film, ‘Prem Ki Shaadi’. Let’s take a closer look at this development.

Ayushmann Khurrana steps into the iconic role of ‘Prem’

According to the Mid-Day report, Ayushmann Khurrana, who is currently filming ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh 2’, is scheduled to begin shooting for ‘Prem Ki Shaadi’ in October. The film is based on a brand-new script, distinct from a previous project Barjatya had discussed with Salman Khan. An insider told Mid-Day, “The film that Khan and Barjatya had discussed is different. This script is brand new.”The banner’s goal with this fresh screenplay is to “modernize Prem for today’s age” while remaining “faithful to the family values that characterize.”

Production of ‘Prem Ki Shaadi’ kicks off with a grand set

Preparations for the film are already underway in Mumbai, with elaborate sets being constructed. A crew member revealed that they are “working with three art teams simultaneously” to build a temple courtyard and a grand mansion at Chitrakoot Grounds in Andheri and Ellora Studios in Mira Road. These meticulous and grand sets are hallmarks of Barjatya’s filmmaking, which blends monumentality with heartfelt Indian traditions. Table reads with the actors are scheduled to begin at the end of September, marking the final stage before filming begins.

‘Prem Ki Shaadi’ to target a younger audience

The decision to cast Khurrana is a strategic move by the filmmakers to attract a younger demographic. Khurrana is known for his relatable characters and socially relevant films, making him an ideal choice to revitalize the character of Prem.According to the report, by casting him, the team aims to bring a new perspective to the role “without watering down the fundamental principles” that have defined Barjatya’s work.
