In a massive twist in the Greater Noida dowry case, Nikki’s family – which accused her in-laws of harassment due to dowry demands – has itself now been accused of physical assault and demanding dowry from their daughter-in-law, officials said on Wednesday.

Nikki Bhati was allegedly assaulted and set on fire by her husband and her in-laws over a dowry demand of Rs 36 lakh, the Bhikari Payla family alleged last week.

However, the Payla family has itself now been accused of demanding dowry and beating Meenakshi – the estranged wife of Deepak, Nikki’s brother.

She had filed an FIR against the family in 2024, in which she had accused them of demanding dowry.

Meenakshi alleged in her complaint that just two months after her marriage with Deepak, he started beating her as he was “not happy with the Ciaz vehicle that was given to him in dowry”.

He had demanded a Scorpio and also sold Ciaz, she alleged.

Meenakshi said that her father died during the pandemic, and till then, he used to give her money.

According to her, she was beaten up by her father-in-law, mother-in-law, Nikki, and Kanchan as well. Nikki and Kanchan were married to the same Bhati family.

After the FIR was filed, a verbal settlement was reached that Deepak’s family will pay Rs 35 lakh to Meenakshi’s family and in return, Meenakshi’s family will withdraw the case.

However, Deepak’s family did not return the money and allegedly continued to torture her.

After the alleged assault did not stop, Meenakshi’s brother went to take his sister back; however, he was allegedly thrashed and his vehicle was also vandalised, officials said.
