Odisha Woman Reveals Six-Month Abduction, Gang-Rape in Balasore Case

A 23-year-old woman from Balasore was allegedly abducted and gang-raped for six months. Bhograi police are investigating and searching for the accused.

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by several persons over the last six months. As per the police, she alleged that she was kidnapped by a man of her locality in Odisha’s Balasore district.

The victim filed a complaint on Tuesday, alleging that she was kidnapped and forcefully kept in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, for six months, during which she was subjected to gang-rape and physical torture.

The woman said she recently managed to escape and lodged a complaint with Bhograi police station.

Inspector-in-charge Rohit Kumar Bal of Bhograi police station said that the victim’s mother had filed a complaint on March 3, alleging that her daughter had eloped with a man, taking jewellery worth over Rs 3 lakh.

Following the complaint, a case was registered.

The woman has been sent to a rehabilitation centre in Balasore, and her medical examination was conducted on Wednesday.

Tribal Girl Gang-raped in Jharkhand’s Dumka

In another case of brutal gang-rape and assault, a 17-year-old tribal girl was allegedly gang-raped in Dumka district by four to five men who also assaulted her boyfriend. As per a report by PTI, the incident happened in the Gumra forest in the Kathikund police station area on Monday.

“The girl, belonging to a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG), had come on a coal-laden truck along with the cleaner of the vehicle with whom she was having an affair,” Kathikund police station’s officer-in-charge Tripurari Kumar told PTI.

“They asked the driver to unload the coal at Dumka and return, and they would board the truck again. While they were walking along the road, they were accosted by four-five youths,” he said.

The girl was sent for post-mortem and the police is questioning four individuals related to the incident.
