Kobbie Mainoo attracts interest from two La Liga giants as midfielder prepares to leave Man United

Kobbie Mainoo could soon be on his way out of Manchester United and his next destination could be the La Liga as two major clubs have reportedly shown interest in signing him.

Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly spoilt for choice as he has made up his mind to leave Manchester United after being benched in the English Premier League games against Arsenal and Fulham. The away fans at Craven Cottage implored manager Ruben Amorim to bring on Kobbie Mainoo in a 1-1 draw vs Fulham, but the Man United tactician ignored those calls.

Kobbie Mainoo played 25 matches for United last season in the league, but it seems he is no longer a part of Amorim’s plans as the Red Devils are chasing Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton in the transfer window.

Real Madrid wants Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo, who flourished under Erik ten Hag and later with Amorim, is expected to play for Man United against Grimsby Town in the League Cup match on Wednesday, but he could be benched when the Burnley match comes on Saturday.

The good news for him is that some of the top clubs in the world, including La Liga giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, are interested in taking him on a loan deal, claims the Daily Mail. A move to any of these clubs would be a significant new chapter in the life of the 20-year-old.

Besides Real and Atletico, a large number of Premier League clubs are also interested in signing Mainoo. As per the report, eight Premier League clubs are keen on completing a deal.

The biggest setback for Mainoo has been the fact that Amorim has preferred 33-year-old Casemiro over him when it was felt that the Brazilian would be cut loose from the squad.

While explaining his decision to bench Mainoo against Fulham, Amorim had said: “We had some issues, but we play with two midfielders, so it’s sometimes a different way of playing, and we have to understand, they have to understand, especially the young players, that there are phases in the season.

“Nowadays it’s normal with a lot of games, things are going to change, but he is there, he’s fighting, he’s training, so he’s one more option for us to win games.”
