Ranveer says KJo was one of the first people to call during IGL controversy

Ranveer Allahbadia says Karan Johar was one of the first people to call him and offer support after 'India's Got Latent' controversy

YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia was surrounded amidst controversy when he appeared on Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’. Ranveer has now opened up on that phase and revealed that film-maker Karan Johar was one of the first people to call him and lend support during that time. In a recent conversation with filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan on his YouTube channel, Ranveer shared that Johar was among the first people to reach out to him when the issue unfolded. Speaking about that difficult period, Ranveer revealed that Karan’s advice helped him cope with the intense public scrutiny.Ranveer told Farah, “He (Karan) also helped me during that phase. He was one of the first to call and simply said, ‘Handle your mind and mental health, and everything will take care of itself.’ And it was true, that’s exactly what happened.”During the discussion, Ranveer admitted that the controversy still affects him emotionally and that he hasn’t fully moved on from the experience. “Whatever happened last year with me, I won’t say I am good, but I am a strong person,” he said. Responding to this, Farah expressed sympathy for what he went through and criticised the culture of online outrage. “It is a traumatic thing to happen for a young person to almost get cancelled. I hate cancel culture,” she said.Farah also mentioned that she dislikes moral policing, while Ranveer added that he has not yet spoken openly about everything that happened during that period. “A lot more happened, I haven’t really spoken about it ever,” he said. “I am still battling my own thing internally. Meeting you was like a healing for me as a professional,” Allahbadia continued. The podcaster further revealed that the controversy had a serious impact on his family, especially his mother. He claimed that she was even physically attacked during the tense period.“One day, publicly, I want to talk about everything that happened. It is not the right time. But I can say that my mother is very hurt and tense. She got physically attacked on one of the days. I am not making this up. This has actually happened, and she has been traumatised. She is also a very strong lady.”Reacting to this, Farah added, “Strong people get affected the most when it happens to their children.”For context, Ranveer became embroiled in a major controversy in 2025 following an episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by Samay Raina. During the show, a question posed by Ranveer to a contestant sparked backlash from a section of viewers who found the remark offensive. The incident eventually led to multiple FIRs being filed against both Ranveer and Samay, intensifying the debate around online content and cancel culture.
