A growing fuel supply disruption is beginning to impact daily transport in Kolkata, where auto-rickshaw drivers are struggling to access LPG fuel amid rising prices and limited availability. Auto LPG rates in the city have increased by ₹5 per litre, pushing the price from ₹57.68 to ₹62.68 per litre. Despite the price hike, many fuel stations are running out of stock, leaving drivers waiting in long queues for hours. Several LPG tankers have reportedly failed to reach filling stations on time, creating a sudden shortage across the city. At many pumps, “No Stock” boards have been placed as supplies run dry within minutes of tanker deliveries. Long lines of auto-rickshaws can be seen outside stations that usually provide LPG, with many drivers saying they have visited three to four pumps without success. The shortage has forced some drivers to keep their vehicles idle for two to three days due to lack of fuel, directly affecting their daily income. Drivers travelling from suburban areas outside the city have also reported difficulty finding LPG anywhere along their routes. The crisis is raising concerns about public transport disruptions if the fuel supply situation does not stabilize soon.
