Clay Ganesha brings rain, gold Ganesha wealth and abundance, silver Ganesha good health, copper Ganesha fulfills desires, and stone Ganesha grants knowledge, as per scriptures
Scholars clarify that Ganesha idol immersion can be done on any day, provided eco-friendly practices are followed.
As Ganesh Chaturthi approaches, families are gearing up to welcome Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of new beginnings. But every year, a debate sparks off—does the material used for making Ganesha idols matter for blessings? Many assume only clay idols hold spiritual value, but tradition tells a richer story.

Celebrated on the fourth day (Chavithi) of the bright fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada, Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Across villages, towns, and cities, families and communities worship him for anywhere between three and 21 days. As per tradition, every new venture—from housewarming and weddings to education and business—begins with invoking his blessings. Devotees believe that a pleased Ganesha ensures success, wealth, and happiness while removing life’s hurdles.
The rituals follow age-old customs: installing the idol at home, offering prayers with 21 sacred leaves, and preparing special dishes like ‘undrallu’ and ‘kudumulu’. Yet, the choice of idol often draws curiosity. Ancient texts associate each idol material with specific blessings:
Clay Ganesha: Brings rain, agricultural prosperity, and prevents drought.
Gold Ganesha: Symbol of wealth and abundance.
Silver Ganesha: Blesses devotees with health and longevity.
Copper Ganesha: Fulfills desires and ambitions.
Stone Ganesha: Grants knowledge and spiritual liberation.
Another common belief, that Ganesha idols should not be immersed on Fridays, has no scriptural basis. Scholars clarify that immersion can be done on any day, provided eco-friendly practices are followed to protect the environment.
This year, as eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations gain momentum, traditions blend with modern awareness, ensuring devotion continues without harming nature.
