Today, the Indian Navy inducted two advanced warships, Udaygiri and Himagiri, marking a historic moment as both ships join the naval fleet simultaneously for the first time. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was present for the ceremony. Designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau, these vessels represent the bureau’s 100th ship. Each ship weighs 6,670 tons and measures 149 meters in length, equivalent to a 15-story building in height. Capable of speeds up to 52 km/h, these stealthy warships are equipped with advanced missile and sensor systems, including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles with a striking range of 290 km. The warships can detect and neutralize submarines and surface vessels, and carry Sea King helicopters. Powered by diesel engines and gas turbines, they have an impressive range of 10,000 km on a single fuel load. Both Udaygiri and Himagiri are also equipped with sonar systems and have the ability to counter drones and missile threats, significantly boosting India’s naval defense capabilities.
