Ganesha Sthapana At Home: The grand festival of Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated this year from August 27 to September 6, 2025. Devotees in India are preparing to welcome Lord Ganesha into their homes.

On the sthapana eve, families do not just clean houses, decorate the puja areas, and make lists of puja materials for rituals. Adequate preparations ensure peace and prosperity during the festival.

For some, the eve of sthapana is not merely devotion but bonding time with the family. Some treat it as a day of spiritual discipline, and others as a cultural event. Both have the same meaning to prepare for the arrival of Lord Ganesha.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Ganesha Sthapana At Home Checklist

Devotees are reminded to have all the materials for the puja in hand to avoid last-minute hassle. The items needed are:

  • Raw rice
  • Mango leaves
  • Water and kalash
  • Red or yellow cloth
  • Lamp, wicks, oil, and ghee
  • Incense sticks and camphor
  • Bananas and fruits
  • Fresh flowers
  • Sandalwood paste
  • Betel leaves and betel nuts

Having all these at hand makes the rituals successful. A checklist is essential to be on top of things and finish the preparations with dedication.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Final Prep

  1. The puja area needs to be cleaned well in advance of the idol’s arrival.
  2. According to Vastu, the idol needs to be placed facing East or North-East and never the South.
  3. A yellow or red cloth covers a pedestal used for placing the idol and seating it.
  4. Sprinkle Gangajal with durva grass and apply haldi, kumkum, and akshat on the idol.
  5. Place a sacred thread (Janeu), a crown, flowers, and a garland.
  6. In addition to Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati should also be prayed to.
  7. Sing Ganesh Aarti and distribute Modaks as prasad.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Do’s

  1. Shower before getting the idol.
  2. Opt for clay idols rather than metal ones.
  3. Wrap the idol with a clean cloth while taking it home.
  4. Keep a kalash with water on the puja site.
  5. Smear sandalwood paste and adorn with durva grass and flowers.
  6. Light a ghee diya during aarti and chant Prana Pratishtha mantras.
  7. Offer food and water to Lord Ganesha always first.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Don’ts

  • Don’t dip the idol without giving bhog and last puja.
  • Don’t leave home vacant when the idol is there.
  • Do not establish the idol beyond the auspicious muhurat.
  • Avoid eating non-vegetarian food, onion, and garlic.
  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol during the festival.

With eco-friendly flowers, puja, and decoration items, the markets are in full glory. Devotees are eagerly waiting for Ganesha’s arrival, which will begin 10 days of worship and joy.
