Will Kobbie Mainoo remain at Manchester United after getting snubbed by Ruben Amorim yet again? Here’s what report says

Kobbie Mainoo has stated just 15 times in Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim’s 44 games in charge, and was benched for both of their season-opening fixtures against Arsenal (home) and Fulham (away).

The transfer drama at Manchester United continues with a week left in the ongoing summer window, with English midfielder Kobbie Mainoo reportedly looking to part ways with Ruben Amorim’s side should an offer come his way, according to talkSPORT.

The development comes after Mainoo was benched for United’s season-opening games against Arsenal and Fulham at home and away respectively, with the ‘Red Devils’ yet to collect a victory after spending more than £200 million this summer.

Mainoo fighting for the position with Bruno, says Amorim

Mainoo’s future at Old Trafford currently appears bleak and Amorim, who had joined the side as their manager last November, confirmed that the 20-year-old academy product is currently competing with senior Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who has been wearing the captain’s armband since 2023.

“He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno,” Amorim had said after the 1-1 draw at Fulham, where he started Fernandes and Casemiro in the midfield and later brought Manuel Ugarte in from the bench.

“And I change two midfielders. I let Mason Mount (play) there because we want to score a goal and when I changed I felt the team need to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno.

“So he (Mainoo) just needs to fight for the position with Bruno, as (it) should be at Manchester United. (Sometimes) he’s going to play with Bruno, but at the moment he’s fighting in training with Bruno for the position,” the Portuguese coach added.

Mainoo has made a total of 50 appearances since he began his senior career with United in 2022 but has started just 15 times in Amorim’s 44 games in charge, the latter preferring Ugarte and Casemiro over him.

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur – the team that beat United in last season’s UEFA Europa League final to deny them European football this season – are reportedly interested in signing Mainoo, who has another two years left in his current contract with the option to extend it by a year.
