'15 of my cousins came here on H-1B': Indian-origin CEO shuts down troll, says his family paid millions in taxes in US

As anti-Indian and anti-H-1B social media handles continue their hate campaign sharing screenshots from Indian groups on social media, payment app CEO Nitish Kannan said 15 of his cousins came to the US on H-1B visas and all of them paid tens of millions of dollars in taxes. The comment came in response to a Telugu-shaming post where a Texan called out Telugus for defrauding their way to the US. A desi looking to buy a residential property ranging between $1 million and $2 million was the source of the argument. “Planning on buying a new construction but looking for best communities in either Frisco or Prosper. Price range $1M to $2M. Looking for suggestions,” the screenshot from a Facebook group said. Sharing this, a Texan wrote: “Be a Telugu, live in a shack with 20 relatives in telugulands — win an H-1B lottery, come to America on fake docs and suddenly be able to afford a brand new 1-2 M dollar home. That makes sense.” Nitish did not understand what was wrong in a desi wanting to buy a property as he explained that H-1Bs makes six figures a year. “Because everybody on the H1B Visa makes six figures a year working in tech jobs by the way, nobody is stopping you from getting a job in technology or studying or working hard,” Kannan wrote. “15 of my cousins came here on an H1B visa and they all make over six or seven figures and they all own homes and have become citizens 100% of my family are multimillionaires and owned multiple homes and have paid tens of millions of dollars in taxes,” Kannan said. Nobody is stopping Americans from earning money, Kannan said resisting the rampant targeting of Indians. “You obviously have no idea. Why don’t you go buy a bunch of motels then why don’t you guys go manage motels and run them nobody is stopping you. Literally nobody stopping you. Go on loop net right now and buy them,” he wrote. “Go apply for an SBA loan and buy a motel. Nobody is stopping you. What are you complaining about? There’s thousands of hotels for sale in America literally thousands,” he added. “Nobody is stopping anybody from starting a tech company, raising money or hiring anybody white people are welcome to do the same thing and have been doing the same thing,” Kannan said.
