Tejashwi advises Chirag Paswan to get married, Rahul Gandhi says ‘applies to me as well’ (X)

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday took a dig at Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan and cheekily advised him to get married soon.

While responding to Paswan’s remark that Tejashwi Yadav has become a “hanger-on” of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a press briefing during the opposition’s ongoing ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar’s Araria, the RJD leader said, “Some people are Hanuman of a special person, but we are Hanuman of the public. Chirag Paswan is not an issue today…”

He further advised the Union Minister to get married soon. “He is our elder brother. I would definitely advise him to get married quickly,” he said, with a grin.

As the crowd chuckled, Rahul Gandhi, seated beside him, interjected on a lighter note, saying, “It is applicable for me as well.”

The jab was a clear reference to Paswan’s oft-repeated claim of being Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Hanuman’, affirming his loyalty to PM Modi. During the 2020 Bihar polls, drawing a parallel, Paswan said that he does not need to use PM Modi’s photos for the election campaign in Bihar.

“I don’t need to use PM Modi’s photos for campaigning. He lives in my heart; I am his Hanuman. If needed, I will tear open my chest and show it,” he had famously said during the polls.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, with whom Tejashwi Yadav shared the stage after the Vote Adhikaar Yatra, alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has institutionalised attempts to steal votes in Bihar through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and is working in favour of the BJP.

“In Bihar, SIR is an institutionalised way for vote theft. Lakhs of voters’ names were deleted; the Opposition is complaining, but the BJP has not complained even once because there is a partnership between the Election Commission, the Election Commissioner and the BJP,” he said.

The Voter Adhikar Yatra, carried out by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, to target the government over alleged voter theft and take their serious charges of “vote chori” among people ahead of the Assembly Elections in the state later this year, from Sasaram on August 17.

The Yatra entered its eighth day on Sunday and will conclude in Patna on September 1.

The two leaders have alleged irregularities in the voter list, accusing the Election Commission of India of deliberately adding names of voters to favour the BJP.

The Yatra will cover over 1,300 km across 20 districts in the state and will conclude in Patna.

The polls are slated to be held later this year, though the ECI has yet to announce the schedule for the same.
