Bengal Political Heat: Humayun Kabir Launches ‘Babri Yatra’ Ahead of Elections

Political temperatures are rising in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with the Babri issue once again entering the spotlight. Humayun Kabir, President of the Janata Unnayan Party, has initiated the construction of a structure referred to as the “Babri Masjid” in Beldanga, Murshidabad, and has now launched a political outreach campaign titled the ‘Babri Yatra.’ The yatra began from Palashi in Nadia district and will proceed by vehicle up to Rejinagar. From there, Kabir is undertaking a 22-kilometre foot march to Beldanga, where the mosque construction work has reportedly commenced. Initially planned as a 265-kilometre journey stretching from Nadia to North Dinajpur, the route was shortened due to ongoing board examinations in the state. Organizers have also stated that microphones and loudspeakers will not be used during the march. Visuals show Humayun Kabir riding a motorcycle at the start of the rally, later continuing on foot, accompanied by supporters and a vehicle displaying banners reading “Babri Yatra.” Kabir had earlier announced his intention to begin construction of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad before the elections, and formal groundwork reportedly started a day prior to the march. According to Kabir, this is just the beginning. He claims that similar yatras will be organized in multiple districts across West Bengal in the coming days as part of a broader political mobilization strategy. With elections approaching, observers see this move as an attempt to consolidate support and strengthen his political base in key minority-dominated regions of the state.
