Congress legislator Rahul Mamkootathil, already under fire over multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, has been hit by fresh controversy after an audio clip surfaced in which he allegedly pressured a woman to undergo an abortion and threatened her with dire consequences if she resisted.

The over four-minute clip, which went viral on Saturday, purportedly records a conversation between the Palakkad MLA and an unidentified woman, reported NDTV.

In it, Mamkootathil is heard expressing fear that the woman’s pregnancy would “destroy” his life and, at one point, warns her that “to kill you… I just need a few seconds.”

However, CNN-News18 could not independently verify the authenticity of the recording.

The exchange begins with the woman questioning why he wanted her “gone without permission.” Mamkootathil responds that she doesn’t understand the consequences.

When she insists she is ready to face them alone, he interjects, saying, “You can’t face it alone. I don’t know the consequences when I get angry.”

Throughout the conversation, he repeatedly asks what she would do if she gave birth, asserting, “I will not leave it.” The woman counters that she would raise the child herself and accused him of being capable of killing it.

The MLA also attempts to reassure her, saying, “Till this moment, I haven’t called you a bad word. Don’t think that you were with me. You are a woman. Is this your ideal in life? I will never do anything wrong to you.”

There has been no official response so far from either Mamkootathil or the Congress party on the audio clip.

Mounting Allegations

The controversy adds to a growing list of accusations against the 38-year-old legislator.

The row began when Malayalam actor Rini George claimed in an online interview that a prominent youth leader from the Congress had sexually harassed her.

While she did not name Mamkootathil, opposition leaders, including the BJP, linked him to the case.

George alleged the politician had sent her objectionable messages, invited her to a five-star hotel, and dismissed her threats of complaint, allegedly telling her, “You can go and tell anyone… who cares?”

Soon after, writer Honey Bhaskaran and trans activist Avanthika came forward with their own accusations of sexual misconduct against the Congress MLA.

Mamkootathil has denied all wrongdoing.

On August 21, he resigned from all organisational roles in the Congress, including his post as Kerala Youth Congress President, but insisted the decision was voluntary and not a directive from party high command.
