This year, the festival will be celebrated on August 27 with great pomp and ceremony across the nation.

DIY Mandap and Backdrops

You can prepare a simple yet beautiful mandap using cardboard boxes or clay to celebrate the homecoming of Ganapati Bappa this year.

You can use potted plants like ferns and many others, or old sarees and dupattas for a vibrant backdrop behind the Ganesha idols and the mandap.

Try to avoid using plastic decorations or thermocol, which are harmful to the environment and are non-degradable. Instead, you can decorate the space with paper or natural materials.

Paper Decorations

You can create paper lanterns in various shapes, sizes and colours to hang around the puja place and also around the home, which will make the place look lively.

You can also use origami creations like flowers, birds, and other decorative elements, according to your personal choice, to add a special touch to the celebrations.

Additionally, try to incorporate paper quilling techniques in decorating the mandap and the backdrop with beautiful designs, offering a 3D effect to your decor.

Natural Decorations

Besides using the potted plants for decorating the backdrop, you can also use banana leaves and natural flowers to create a sustainable yet traditional festive atmosphere.

Flowers such as marigolds, roses, and others should be used to create garlands.

Also, try to scatter flower petals alongside the leaves in any metal/reusable bowls and place them at various corners of your home and temple for a fragrant and colourful vibe during the festival.

You can also arrange the banana leaves in such a way that they can be kept behind the Ganesha idol and even used for placing them at the entrance of your home alongside the ghats.

Eco-Friendly Rangoli and Lighting

Try to avoid synthetic colours for making the rangoli, and opt for the age-old styles of using powdered rice, pulses, or flower petals to create beautiful designs at the entrance of your home and near the mandap.

For lighting, use terracotta pots, diyas, and candles to create a warm and alluring ambience at your home.

Clay Ganesha Idols

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Craft charming Ganesha idols at home using clay or playdough for a fun and eco-friendly celebration.

You can create small Ganesha idols using clay or playdough that will be no less adorable. Afterwards, you can encourage the kids in your house to colour them as per their personal preferences. Finally, help them dress the idols in self-made clothes and ornaments, respectively, using old, properly washed, and colourful fabrics and clay or reusable jewellery to create a sense of creativity and environmental awareness.
