Maruti Suzuki dispatches record 5.85 lakh vehicles via rail in 2025

Maruti Suzuki India on Monday said it achieved its highest-ever rail dispatch volume, transporting over 5.85 lakh vehicles by rail in calendar year 2025, an increase of 18 per cent compared with the previous year.

Rail now accounts for around 26 per cent of the company’s outbound vehicle logistics, up from 5.1 per cent in 2016.

The automaker said the shift towards rail logistics has contributed to lower carbon emissions, reduced fuel consumption and eased road congestion. According to the company, rail dispatches in 2025 helped avoid 87,904 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions and saved more than 687 lakh litres of fuel.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Maruti Suzuki India, said the company’s rail dispatch volumes reached a record level in 2025, supported by infrastructure investments and expanded rail connectivity.

He added that the automaker aims to increase the share of rail-based dispatches to 35 per cent by FY2030–31 as part of its sustainability roadmap.

Maruti Suzuki has been using railways as a key logistics mode for more than a decade. Since FY2014–15, the company has transported over 28 lakh vehicles from 22 locations, servicing more than 600 cities across India through a hub-and-spoke model.

Currently, the automaker operates over 45 flexi-deck rakes, each capable of carrying around 260 vehicles per trip. Rail dispatches from its in-plant railway sidings at Gujarat and Manesar accounted for 53 per cent of total rail volumes in 2025.
