Ever since ‘Border 2’ has been released, fans have been flocking to the theaters to watch it. But ‘Border’ star Suniel Shetty has chosen to stay away from the movie, even though it stars his son Ahan Shetty sharing screen space with Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Varun Dhawan. At the premiere last week, Suniel Shetty marked his attendance to support his son but stayed outside the hall, while his wife Mana, daughter Athiya, and son-in-law, cricketer KL Rahul watched the film with Ahan. Now, Suniel Shetty has revealed the emotional vow that he has made for his son, Ahan Shetty’s epic war drama.
Suniel Shetty reveals why he stayed outside the theater
As reported in Mid-day, Suniel Shetty recalled the evening with a smile, saying, “I sat outside the theatre for three and a half hours, meeting people and soaking in all the compliments.”
While some might be surprised by this gesture, others may relate to the actor’s emotional reason behind it. Shetty revealed that a heartfelt wish to experience his son’s success led him to make such an emotional vow: “I had said from day one that I wouldn’t watch ‘Border 2’ until it crossed a worldwide collection of Rs.500 crore. I had kept a mannat for Ahan. So far, I haven’t watched a single frame. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not about arrogance.”Notably, the actor famously played Assistant Commandant Bhairon Singh Rathore in the 1997 original, ‘Border’ directed by J.P. Dutta.
Suniel Shetty hopes ‘Border 2’ crosses Rs. 500 crore
Shetty believes his wish for his son’s success will be fulfilled. “I am hoping it will cross Rs 500 crore. Mana loved ‘Border 2’. Everybody who has watched the film has appreciated Ahan’s work. I am happy that after ‘Dhurandhar’ , another Hindi movie has worked brilliantly,” he shared.
Suniel Shetty plans to watch ‘Border 2’ with his family
Suniel Shetty has already made plans for the big day and said, “I will watch it with Ahan, his friends, and my family. I will also take Sunny paaji, Varun, and all of them with me. It will probably be the second time for them, but it will be my first. I don’t know how many times I will watch it after that. I have always been proud of Ahan and his decisions. He strongly believed that ‘Border’ 2 was the film he wanted to do.”
‘Border 2’ box office collection
As per Sacnilk, Anurag Singh’s directorial ‘Border 2’ witnessed a significant dip during its first week. After crossing the ₹100 crore mark over the weekend, the film earned ₹20 crore net in India on its fifth day — its first Monday. This indicates that the movie gained substantial momentum from the Republic Day holiday and the extended weekend. On Tuesday, early estimates suggested a further decline, with collections touching ₹13 crore. With this, Border 2’s total box office collection in India after six days stands at ₹213 crore.
