At least five people died and several got injured after a tour bus returning to New York City from Niagara Falls with 54 people, including Indians, aboard, crashed on an interstate highway.

The accident happened after the bus lost control on Interstate 90 near Pembroke, about 40 km east of Buffalo, on Friday.

According to O’Callaghan, the bus was heading east when it veered into the median and eventually came to rest in a ditch on the right side of the roadway. He noted that the majority of the passengers were of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino descent.

“The driver is alive and well. We’re working with him. We believe we have a good idea of what happened, why the bus lost control,” O’Callaghan said.

O’Callaghan stated that the bus was moving eastbound when it crossed into the median and eventually landed in a ditch on the right side of the road. He added that the majority of the passengers were of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino ethnicity.
