When Sunita said Govinda is ‘not a good husband’

Amid divorce buzz, Sunita Ahuja's old video saying Govinda is 'not a good husband' goes viral; joked 'chod toh nahi sakte abhi'

Rumours of separation between Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja have intensified. According to the latest buzz, Sunita allegedly filed for divorce in February 2025, citing cheating and cruelty. While the rumours are only just picking up, an old video of Sunita candidly calling Govinda “not a good husband” has resurfaced online, sparking renewed interest around their marriage. In the clip, Sunita is heard saying, “Govinda na, beta bohot acha hai. Govinda Bhai bohot acha hai. But, as a husband, jo mujhe chahiye…” (Govinda is a very good son. Govinda is a very good brother. But, as a husband, he’s not what I want).

Govinda ‘not a good husband’

She explained further that she loves to party occasionally, go out on dinner dates and holidays, but she claims that her husband’s life revolves around his family. “Woh 60 saal ka ho gaya, usne apne liye kabhi nahi jeeya. Mujhe dukh hota hai. Itne bade superstar ho, par apna zindagi kabhi nahi dekha. Toh main bolti hoon mujhe beta chahiye Govinda jaisa, pati nahi chahiye. (He’s 60 now and has never lived for himself. That makes me sad. He’s such a big superstar, but he has never really enjoyed life. So, I say I would want a son like Govinda, not a husband like him.)” When asked if she regretted her marriage, she laughed and replied: “Faida kya hai. Chhod toh nahi sakte abhi.” (What’s the point? I can’t leave him now).

When Sunita praised Govinda’s character

Interestingly, back in a 2021 interview with ETimes, she praised Govinda’s character but also revealed their stark differences. “He is a very good person! A superb son, brother, and a very good father. But I always tell him that in his next life, he should be born as my son. As a husband, he is very good, but not the kind of husband I want (laughs),” she had said.

Govinda and Sunita’s differences

Sunita also highlighted their contrasting lifestyles and preferences. She said “…Govinda is very dedicated to his work and family. He has no such lavish interests. We are total opposites. He spent all his youth making his family happy and we didn’t get time together, as he used to do five shoots a day. And now I’m old (laughs)!”Govinda and Sunita, who married in 1987, have two children—Yash and Tina. For decades, Sunita largely stayed away from the limelight. The sudden interest in their marriage has catapulted her into the limelight.
