Director of Melania Trump’s documentary accused of sexual assault, named in Epstein files

Director of Melania Trump’s upcoming documentary accused of sexual assault, named in Epstein files — Who is Brett Ratner?

The director of the documentary about US President Donald Trump’s wife, Melania, has been accused of sexual harassment and has also been mentioned in the infamous Epstein files.Brett Ratner, the Hollywood director chosen to lead the upcoming Melania documentary, has attracted controversy due to past sexual harassment claims and his appearance in recently released Jeffrey Epstein files.Ratner is directing ‘Melania,’ a documentary about first lady Melania Trump that is scheduled for release on January 30, 2026. The film is said to document the 20 days before US president Donald Trump’s second inauguration. The project is backed by Melania Trump as an executive producer. It reportedly cost about $40 million.Ratner’s selection for the project marks his return to filmmaking after years mostly outside the spotlight following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. In 2017, amid the #MeToo movement, six women, including actresses Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge, accused Ratner of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour over several years. Allegations included unwanted sexual advances and misconduct on film sets and in private settings. Ratner’s agency and industry partners distanced themselves from him at the time, and he stepped away from many major projects. Ratner has denied the allegations and no criminal charges were brought against him in those cases. In December 2025, a photograph of Ratner surfaced in a batch of documents from the Department of Justice (DOJ) known as the Epstein files. The image shows him with Jean‑Luc Brunel, a French modelling agent and associate of late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison while facing charges related to child sexual abuse. The appearance of Ratner in the files does not indicate any wrongdoing or criminal allegations against him, and authorities have said that inclusion in the files alone does not prove illegal conduct. The documentary Melania has already been previewed at a private screening at the White House attended by political figures, entertainment executives and others, including Ratner himself.Ratner rose to fame in the 1990s directing popular franchise films such as the Rush Hour series and X‑Men: The Last Stand. His involvement in the Melania film marks his most high‑profile project since the 2017 allegation.
